Mataram, 14 November 2025 — The University of Mataram (Unram) welcomed delegates from the British Embassy Jakarta, BAPPENAS, Nexus3, and Zest Associates in a hybrid meeting to discuss the progress of the ongoing phytoremediation project in Lombok and explore future collaboration opportunities.

Held from the Rectorate Meeting Room, the session was attended by Unram Rector Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D, Vice Rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Information System Prof. Akmaluddin, ST., M.Sc(Eng)., Ph.D, and Head of the Office of International Affairs Prof. Ir. Dahlanuddin, M.Rur.Sc., Ph.D, together with faculty deans.

The British Embassy Jakarta delegation included Freddie Brunt (Deputy Development Director), Anintya Hapsari, Berth Ginting, Satryo Wibisono, Lili Ana, Marzia Firani, and Irene Risty.
From BAPPENAS, participants included Mohaman Firda Fauzan, Ravhan Rahmanda Arifin, Sophia Asih Elysabet Sitompul, and Adhevita Martha Arviana. Representatives from Nexus3, Krishna Zak and Yune Eribowo, were also present.

The project presentation was delivered virtually by Mr. Jeffrey Behmer, Founder and Managing Director of Zest Associates, who shared updates and insights on the phytoremediation initiative currently being implemented in Lombok. The project aims to rehabilitate degraded and contaminated land using plant-based remediation techniques that restore soil health and create opportunities for future economic use. This ongoing work is supported by the British Embassy Jakarta and Zest Associates and carried out in collaboration with the Unram Environmental Conservation (EC) Team and Nexus3.
Beyond reviewing the project’s progress, the meeting provided space for discussions on broader collaboration opportunities.

Rector Prof. Bambang reiterated Unram’s commitment to strengthening partnerships for environmental sustainability, stating:
“We truly appreciate this visit and the continuous collaboration. Unram is ready to support future initiatives that bring positive impacts to the environment and local communities.”
Representing the British Embassy Jakarta, Mr. Freddie Brunt expressed his appreciation for Unram’s contribution.

The meeting concluded with a shared interest in advancing joint efforts in environmental research, land restoration, and sustainable development across Lombok.
