Mataram, Indonesia – November 10-18, 2024
The University of Mataram (UNRAM) welcomed ten students and two staff members from Shangrao Normal University, China, as part of the Indonesia-China Language and Cultural Exchange Program. The delegation, led by Mr. Li Yang, Director of Student Affairs, and Ms. Yu Chunying, Staff of International Affairs, engaged in a series of activities designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions. This program is a continuation of the partnership established in 2022.

Highlights of the Program

Day 1: Welcoming Ceremony and Campus Tour
The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Akmaluddin, Vice Rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Information Systems, and Prof. Dahlanuddin, Head of OIA. “Please enjoy our island and make the most of this cultural exchange experience,” said Prof. Akmaluddin during the welcoming ceremony. The group toured UNRAM’s library, visited the Mandarin Center, and engaged in discussions about academic and cultural collaborations.

Day 2: Exploring Agroindustry and Local Language
The students visited the Faculty of Food Technology and Agroindustry (FATEPA) to explore laboratories and learn about local food processing, including making tempeh. Later, they toured the Immunology Laboratory at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and attended a Bahasa Indonesia class at UPA Bahasa.

Day 3: Immersing in Balinese Culture
The group visited Institut Agama Hindu Negeri (IAHN) Gde Pudja Mataram, where they learned Balinese traditional arts, including dance and music. They also explored Taman Narmada to gain insights into traditional Hindu practices and heritage.

Day 4: Experiencing Tourism and Sasak Culture
At Politeknik Pariwisata (POLTEKPAR) Lombok, the participants explored gastronomy, traditional Sasak culinary arts, and Japanese matcha-making culture. Later, they visited Desa Sade to learn about Sasak traditional life and ended the day enjoying the sunset at Kuta Mandalika and Bukit Merese.

Day 5: Understanding Islamic Culture
The delegation visited Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Mataram to understand the Islamic educational system and later toured the Islamic Center in Lombok to learn about Islamic culture. The day concluded with a visit to Pantai Nipah to enjoy the serene beach atmosphere.

Day 6: Community Engagement and Nature Exploration
In Desa Karang Sidemen, the students participated in a community development activity, learning the process of coffee farming and production. The day ended with a visit to Danau Biru, a tranquil blue lake that offered a moment of relaxation and appreciation for Lombok’s natural beauty.

Day 7: Closing Ceremony and Cultural Performances
The program culminated in a vibrant closing ceremony where students from both universities showcased traditional dances, music, and martial arts, including Kung Fu. The performances reflected the cultural richness and mutual respect fostered throughout the program.

This exchange program demonstrates the University of Mataram’s commitment to promoting global partnerships and intercultural understanding. It not only provided an immersive cultural experience but also paved the way for stronger academic ties between UNRAM and Shangrao Normal University.
