Mataram, 16 March 2026 — The University of Mataram (UNRAM) welcomed the official visit of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China on Monday, 16 March 2026, at the Rector’s Meeting Room. The meeting aimed to strengthen institutional relations and explore potential academic and research collaboration between UNRAM and higher education institutions in China.

The delegation from the Consulate General was led by Mr. Zhang Zhisheng, Consul-General, accompanied by Ms. Tang Lingyi, Attaché. The meeting was received by the Rector of the University of Mataram, Prof. Sukardi, along with university leaders, including Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo (Former Rector), Prof. Akmaluddin (Vice Rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Information Systems), faculty deans, representatives of INDEEP, and staff from the Office of International Affairs.

In his opening remarks, Consul-General Zhang Zhisheng highlighted China’s strategic priorities in advancing high-quality economic development, with a strong emphasis on technological innovation and research and development. He noted key focus areas such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and sustainable development, while also underscoring China’s commitment to expanding international cooperation in higher education through scholarship programs and academic exchanges.

The discussion covered several key areas of potential collaboration. In the field of academic and research cooperation, both parties explored opportunities in food security, agricultural development, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation. The importance of fostering joint research initiatives and strengthening institutional partnerships between UNRAM and Chinese universities was emphasized.

In the area of medical and health sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of UNRAM proposed collaboration in research on tropical diseases, global health security, marine-related health studies, as well as the application of medical technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare. The Consulate General expressed its readiness to facilitate connections with relevant universities in China and also introduced opportunities for Indonesian medical professionals to work in China through the K-Visa scheme.

Discussions on student mobility and academic programs highlighted scholarship opportunities for Indonesian students to pursue studies in China, as well as the potential development of double-degree programs. Both parties also addressed aspects of academic recognition and administrative procedures for international students. The Consulate General encouraged UNRAM to submit formal proposals for collaboration to be further communicated to prospective partner institutions in China.

Furthermore, the meeting explored broader institutional partnerships, including cooperation with Chinese universities specializing in vocational and applied education, strengthening academic exchanges, and developing joint educational programs. Opportunities for collaboration in language and cultural education initiatives were also discussed as part of future engagement.

The visit reflects the University of Mataram’s continued commitment to strengthening global partnerships and enhancing its internationalization efforts through meaningful academic collaboration.
