Mataram, Indonesia – July 1, 2026 — University of Mataram (UNRAM) has achieved a significant international milestone after being officially selected as the host institution of the Mataram King Sejong Institute under the 2026 King Sejong Institute Designation Program administered by the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF), Republic of Korea.
The successful designation was secured through a proposal developed and submitted by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) University of Mataram, which led the entire application process in close collaboration with Seoul National University, Republic of Korea. Following a competitive international selection process, University of Mataram was chosen as one of only 29 newly designated King Sejong Institutes worldwide for 2026.
The achievement reflects the commitment of OIA University of Mataram to expanding the university’s global partnerships and international opportunities. Through strategic coordination with Seoul National University, OIA successfully prepared and submitted the proposal that resulted in the establishment of the Mataram King Sejong Institute.
The King Sejong Institute is the Republic of Korea’s official institution dedicated to promoting Korean language education and Korean culture around the world. Its establishment at University of Mataram will provide new opportunities for students, academics, and the wider community to access high-quality Korean language and cultural programs in West Nusa Tenggara.

The designation is expected to strengthen educational, cultural, and academic ties between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea while creating new opportunities for student mobility, academic exchange, collaborative research, and international engagement.
Following the announcement, the King Sejong Institute Foundation will conduct a series of follow-up activities, including operational agreement arrangements, administrator training, and program preparations. Once these processes are completed, the Mataram King Sejong Institute will begin offering Korean language courses and cultural programs at University of Mataram.
